Using Staging Companies to Sell Property

A staging company has nothing to do with stagecoaches, and very little to do with theatre productions. But it does have some similarity to theatre, in that staging a house is sort of like turning it into a Hollywood set, for a short period of time. Just like TV and movie sets that look permanent but are not, a staged house is one that is given an interior decorating makeover, long enough to attract attention and close the sale.

Staging companies charge various amounts, depending upon the size of the house they stage and the type of furnishing they use to dress it up. But in many cases, the expense of hiring a staging company is offset by the value of a faster sale at a higher price. Take, for example, a vacant house that looks and feels cold, stark, and nothing like home. It may be a hard property to market to a family dreaming of home, sweet home. But a staging company can add furniture; houseplants, scented candles, and artwork, transforming the vacant look into a warm, inviting, cheerful, and lovely home.

That is, in essence, the sole purpose of staging. It's like a wardrobe change for real estate property. If the house you are trying to sell could use a quick facelift, you might want to shop around for a staging company. Have them show you photos of "before and after" projects they've done for other clients, to help you decide if their services will add enough value to pay for themselves. If so, go for it, and enjoy the instant results.
